October 2, 2008, 4:06 PM
A woman told police she was standing by the side of her house in the 2700 block of Lombard when a white pitbull ran up and attacked her, unprovoked.  When her husband heard her screams, he came outside to try to get the dog away from her.  After the pitbull bit her leg, it attempted to bite her face.  Immediately after the attack, the victim said, a man in a white Chevy Caprice with tinted windows drove through the 2800 block of Lombard/Harvey alley, stopped at the alley mouth, called the dog into the car, and drove off.  The woman was left with several puncture wounds to her leg.

Pitbull attacks muzzled, leashed dog

August 16, 2008, 11:19 AM
A 47-year-old man told police his dog was viciously attacked by a pitbull between 7 and 8 PM on 8/14/08.  As the complainant walked his muzzled pet through the 1900 block of Grove/Kenilworth alley, he said, a tan pitbull attacked it, unprovoked.  The dogwalker said he spoke with the pitbull’s owner at the time, and the man said he would cover the vet bill for the injured animal.  But when the injured dog’s owner called the number the pitbull owner gave, the person who answered hung up on him.  Police cited 38-year-old Alfredo Zamarripa, 1924 Grove, for having a dog at large, no city tags, and having a biting dog.  Court date is September 11, 2008, at 3 PM in the Community Room of the Berwyn police station, 6401 31st.

Dog bites cop, cops seize dog

July 26, 2008, 11:07 AM
Several officers, including an animal control officer with a noose, responded to complaints of a male yellow Lab roaming at large in the 3500 block of Harvey.  Callers told police it was an on-going problem.  When the animal control officer tried to seize the dog, it became aggressive.  Three other officers saw the dog bite the animal control officer.  A 19-year-old man at 3618 Harvey told police the dog belongs to his sister, Sherri Leyva, who was not at home.  Police, familiar with Leyva* from previous incidents, wrote three tickets for having a dog at large, no tags, and having an aggressive dog.  Court date for the offenses is August 14 at 3 PM in the Community Room, 6401 31st.
JULY 27, 10:26 AM
Police returned to 3618 Harvey, where they had written tickets the previous day to the owner of an at-large dog who bit the officer attempting to noose the animal.  This time, police spoke with a 24-year-old female resident, who said her sister, dog owner Sherri Leyva, was not at home.  Because of its bite history, police seized the dog; the woman signed the tickets for her sister.

“PUPPY STORE” CLOSED AFTER POLICE FIND FILTH, EXPIRED BUSINESS LICENSE

July 11, 2008, 7:37 AM
An officer was dispatched to “The Puppy Store”, 6907 Cermak, following complaints about conditions inside.  He spoke with a Daniela Munoz, who said she owns the business with her fiance, Abraham Ronces.  The business was registered only to Ronces, but the license expired on June 30, 2008.  The officer walked around to observe the condition and treatment of the animals.  The smell of urine and feces was overwhelming. The heavy room deodorant in use was not enough to cover the extremely potent stench.  Five cages were visible from the entrance, two on the floor, and three stacked atop them.  All contained multiple puppies—some with six or more in a single cage—and all had large amounts of urine and feces on the bottom, with dog food scattered among the mess as well.  Dog food was also scattered across the floor of the business.  In the back of the business, the officer found two more cages of puppies, in the same unsanitary condition as the others.  The officer found conditions in the business to be sub-par, not only for the animals, but for any potential clients.  A report was forwarded to the city collector’s office.
