A 19-year-old man at 3618 Harvey told police the dog belongs to his sister, Sherri Leyva, who was not at home. “PUPPY STORE” CLOSED AFTER POLICE FIND FILTH, EXPIRED BUSINESS LICENSE
July 11, 2008, 7:37 AM
An officer was dispatched to “The Puppy Store”, 6907 Cermak, following complaints about conditions inside. He spoke with a Daniela Munoz, who said she owns the business with her fiance, Abraham Ronces. The business was registered only to Ronces, but the license expired on June 30, 2008. The officer walked around to observe the condition and treatment of the animals. The smell of urine and feces was overwhelming. The heavy room deodorant in use was not enough to cover the extremely potent stench. Five cages were visible from the entrance, two on the floor, and three stacked atop them. All contained multiple puppies—some with six or more in a single cage—and all had large amounts of urine and feces on the bottom, with dog food scattered among the mess as well. Dog food was also scattered across the floor of the business. In the back of the business, the officer found two more cages of puppies, in the same unsanitary condition as the others. The officer found conditions in the business to be sub-par, not only for the animals, but for any potential clients. A report was forwarded to the city collector’s office.
