Roger T. Dziadkowiec, 56, of Chicago, was expelled from McDonalds on Ridgeland and Cermak for intoxication. Police reportedly collected him on the sidewalk outside in possession of an open bottle of vodka.

Someone broke a passenger-side window of a white Honda Civic in the 2400 block of Highland and helped himself to a Pioneer CD player.

Five-year-old calls 911 a bunch of times

Police ended up breaking a window to enter a building in the 1800 block of Oak Park after a series of abandoned 911 emergency calls. When dispatchers returned the call, they heard only “heavy breathing.” A father told police his five-year-old was playing with the telephone.

Alley ordinance nets career criminal

Police observed a white Ford Econoline illegally traveling up and down the alleys near Oak Park and Cermak. “I’m just looking for wood to build a ramp. I’m a cripple,” the driver explained to police. Joseph Q. Decellis, 53, of the 1600 block of 16th St, was found to have an extensive criminal record with over 51 prior arrests for offenses involving sexual assault, burglary, weapons, larceny and dangerous drugs. He was charged with driving on a revoked license, uninsured vehicle and illegal alley traffic. His van was impounded.

Burglary attempted, abandoned
A woman in the 2100 block of Highland thought she was having a break-in when she heard a loud bang and footsteps on her back stairs. Police found no one, but the doorjamb was damaged.

“ComEd guy” scam

January 29-30, 2010, 2:43 PM; 8:06 PM,
Three elderly victims called police after a series of failed gypsy scams involving men in work-jackets masquerading as ComEd employees. In all three instances, the men – alone or in a pair—talked their way into the residence by saying electrical work was being done in the neighborhood. The scammers’ told the “customers” that they were “owed a $50 credit.” The phony employees then offered the refund immediately in cash saying, “I can give you a hundred dollar bill right now if you have $50 change.” The scams occurred in the 3800 block of Kenilworth, the 1200 block of Kenilworth and 1200 block of Oak Park. All victims were over 70 years old. The men were described as a male white 35-40 years old, medium build, with brown hair in a blue work jacket and skull cap and a heavy-set Hispanic male, with a goatee wearing a beige work coat and a dark knit cap.

New TV-free lifestyle not ok with roommate

Police were summoned for a domestic disturbance over a television in the 3600 block of Oak Park. A 50-year-old woman told her 47-year-old male roommate that her therapist had recommended that she limit the amount of TV she watched. According to police: “Because [her] therapist made such a recommendation to her, she attempted to limit her roommate’s viewing habits as well. Her attempt greatly upset [the roommate] who verbally threatened her and told her to get away before something happened.” No charges were filed.

Charity box stolen by job hopefuls

The Taco bell clerk remembered the man with the tear tattoos on his face—and his female accomplice—because they stole the plastic charity change box from the countertop in the 6900 block of Ogden. She told police the pairapplied for jobs there earlier in the week. She gave police their job applications, listing their address at a nearby hotel.

Neighbor beaten with baseball bats

Neighbors saw a man beaten by two men in ski masks in front of his home in the 1500 block of Wenonah and ran out to help. Despite the man’s requests to keep the incident quiet, the neighbors called police, who found him on his porch, bleeding from the head. The man allegedly would not allow the cops inside his home, citing dogs. When taken to MacNeal Hospital for treatment, he told police the assailants demanded the keys to his old Toyota T-100 pickup and then beat him and drove off in a newer model silver van. He allegedly told doctors he had “fallen down the stairs.”

Maintenance man fails to sell church’s stolen snow-blower
January 30, 2010
A woman at Berwyn Baptist Church called police after witnesses reported a man fitting the description of the church maintenance man walking down the 3400 block of Clinton with a large green auger-type snow blower. The LawnBoy 824e Electric Start had been removed from an unlocked storage shed at the church. Carmen Contreras, 47, of the 7100 block of Windsor, allegedly admitted to police that he had “sold the slow blower for $10 to a guy named Jose” whom he met at the nearby Connie’s restaurant. Police recovered the machine near the restaurant, where witnesses told them Jose had “left on a Pace bus.” The church did not press charges for burglary, but Contreras was charged with criminal trespass to property.

Police charged Jose Evans, 26, of the 2400 block of East Avenue in Berwyn, with alleged possession of a bag with 4.9 grams of cannabis. Evans paid a $175 fine.

DUI driver wets herself

Renee Terry, 40, of Fairbury, Ill. was charged with DUI after police allegedly saw her silver 2010 Ford Windstar veer across the yellow line on 16th St. She allegedly told police that she had been visiting her mother in the hospital and had left her drivers license at home. When she urinated in her pants during field sobriety tests, she explained that she was “nervous.” She was charged with driving with license suspended, DUI and driving with an open jug of beer in the car.

Loud car flees dangerously

Felipe Lira, 27, of Cicero, fled police after passing a squad car with radio blaring. Pursued by cop cars, he allegedly blew through stop signs at 25th St. and 61st Ct. then proceeded, “at a high rate of speed with no regard to school children walking in the area or the general public.” When stopped after speeding at more than 40 miles per hour, he allegedly told police, “I’m sorry. Did you stop me for my music?” He was charged with loud music, fleeing and attempting to elude arrest, reckless driving, speeding, and disregarding stop signs. His 2001 white Cadillac Deville was impounded.

Neighbors saw three men break the window of a red 1994 Acura in the 2300 block of Lombard and take a stereo system. They allegedly told police the men fled into Cicero.

Loud van impounded

A Chevy van was stopped in the 7000 block of Cermak because its stereo could be heard 250 feet away.  Police impounded the van.  Driver Salvador Aguilar Perez, 23, of 5010 south Washtenaw, Chicago, received a $500 ticket for violating Berwyn’s noise ordinance.

Loud van

An overly loud Ford van was stopped for same in the 6200 block of Ogden.  The van was impounded for the noise offense.  Driver Jose Lopez, 19, of 3204 Lombard, got the $500 noise ticket, plus citations for driving unlicensed and uninsured.

Loud music + belligerent intoxication = slammer

October 27, 2009, 1:26 AM

A police officer heard loud music pounding from an apartment near Wesley and Vacin and shined his spotlight on the window. A man’s voice called out “Shut that f^&*ing light off, you mother f&*#er!” When the cop identified himself as a Berwyn police officer, the voice allegedly replied, “I don’t give a f*&@ who you are! Turn that f*&@in light off,” and “F*&@ you. I don’t care who you are, I’ll listen to my music when I want to.” A man —appearing highly intoxicated—exited the apartment and approached the officer in a hostile manner while yelling obscenities. After a struggle, the officer handcuffed Fernando R. Razzino and brought him to the police station. He was charged with assault and resisting arrest.

Cop thinks lady looks like a dude

Ticketing cops ruffled a traffic violator’s feathers when they mistook her for a man. A driver began to argue with a community service officer who was ticketing near Jefferson Elementary school in 7000 block of 16th St. A responding police officer overheard the driver yelling and dropping F-bombs “in a low voice”, so --observing that the driver had “short combed back hair and a visible mustache”—told the ticketing cop “write this guy a local ordinance citation.” The driver, who turned out to be a 25 year old woman with two children in the back seat —yelled out the window, “I’m a girl!” She told the officers “I’m going to tell [your supervisors] that you called me a dyke!” The officers denied using that word.  The driver, a resident of the 2600 block of Oak Park, yelled, “You’re lying!” and drove away.

SUV shopper turns thief

A man posing as a potential buyer stole an SUV from a woman in the 6700 block of 16th St. After examining the gray 2007 GMC Envoy, he asked for the title to compare VIN numbers, then hopped into the drivers seat and sped off with the car. He later called the victim’s husband and threatened the family and their daughters if they contacted police. The thief was described as a male Hispanic, 28 years old, wearing a black baseball hat, gray and blue hoodie, red shirt and Bulls pants.

Man reportedly sics dog on human

A man told police he was taking out the trash in the 1900 block of Grove when he heard his downstairs neighbor’s voice ordering his dog to “sic ‘em.” The white pitbull, named “Chucky,” bit him once in the leg above the ankle. Police brought the victim to MacNeal Hospital where he got seven stitches. Police records indicated Chucky had come to attention twice previously for biting someone else and for lack of registration.

A car being prepared for sale was stolen from the car wash in the 6200 block of Ogden. Employees told police two black teenage males were seen taking the car. The black 1999 Pontiac Grand Am belonged to Midway Auto Sales on Cicero Ave.

An older white cargo van was stolen from the 6300 block of 26th St. The owner told police it has a large American flag decal in the back window.


Indecent Exposure

A woman stepped out of her house in the 1500 block of Highland and observed a man seated on the porch across the street with his pants down, masturbating. The man called to her; she called police. The offender was described as a male Hispanic, 25 years old with dark complexion, wearing blue jeans, a blue hoodie, a blue cap and gym shoes.

A woman called police after she saw a man masturbating while standing in the window in the 1400 block of Harvey.

Prostitution sting

Rudolfo Molina, 23, of Chicago, was taken into custody in the 6500 block of Ogden Ave. for allegedly soliciting a prostitute. He was charged under the Cook County Public Morals Nuisance Ordinance. His 2004 Buick Rendezvous was impounded.

Stereos heard beyond 200 feet get Oldsmobiles towed

In the 6600 block of Cermak, an Olds Alero was impounded because its stereo was so loud it could be heard more than 200 fet away.  The $500 ticket went to driver Victor M. Campos, 21, of 2520 south California, Chicago.

An other equally noisy Olds got hooked, this time from the 6700 block of Cermak.  Driver Megan Elizabeth heinzel, 20, of Bridgeview, received the $500 ticket.

A Chevy Impala, audible over 150 feet away, was stopped in the 3900 block of Harlem.  Driver Richard R. Garcia, 17, of 5222 S. Central, Chicago, received the $500 noise violation ticket; the car was impounded.

In the 6500 block of Ogden, police stopped a too-loud Honda Civic and impounded it.  The $500 ticket went to driver Jonathan Polanco, 21, of Cicero.

Police impounded a Cadillac Deville for violating the noise ordinance in the 6300 block of Ogden.  Driver Thomas J. Baxa, 27, of 245 Villa Park, was issued the $500 ticket and the car was impounded.

A brown and black Mongoose Rebel bike disappeared from a home in the 6900 block of 34th St.

Wire cutting bandit strikes again

A man in the 1900 block of Grove observed his neighbor cutting the outside cable wires to his home. As police took the report a second neighbor reported that her cable had abruptly gone out at midnight. She told police this was not the first time the neighbor had severed the wires.

September 25, 2009, 11:28 AM
Police stopped Juan Palomino, 20, of Cicero in the 6600 block of Cermak for a sound system heard in excess of 75 feet away. Palomino’s green 2000 Chevy Astro van was impounded and he was fined $500.

Police impounded the silver 2000 Pontiac of Armando Carillo, 24, of Chicago for a too-loud sound system. He was also charged with driving with a suspended license, no valid drivers license and not having insurance.

Burglars leave gun in woman’s garage?

A woman in 1500 block of Highland the called police after observing a silver Chrysler parked in front of her opened garage door. The car sped off and responding police searched the garage finding a fully loaded model 17 9 mm Glock handgun, and three extra ammunition clips. All three identifying numbers had been illegally scratched off of the gun and its case. The woman claimed that she had no knowledge of the gun or how it got there.

Loud Lincoln

An officer noticed a “clear and distinct thumping” at 19th and Euclid, emanating from a black Lincoln Continental.  The car was impounded for violating Berwyn’s noise ordinance.  Driver Jose Manuel Nunez, 20, of 1508 Harvey, received a $500 noise citation.  He was also ticketed for driving unlicensed and uninsured, and for having things hanging from his rearview mirror.

Police stopped Steve Kobela, of the 3100 block of Oak Park, two blocks south of his home for an excessively loud radio. He was charged with driving on a suspended license, having an uninsured vehicle, a broken tail light and illegally loud radio. His 1996 maroon Taurus was impounded.

Neighbor witnesses car burglary by other neighbors

A man preparing for work at 5 AM heard glass breaking and left his house in the 2300 block of Scoville. There he saw two 18 - 20-year-old male whites standing beside his neighbor’s maroon 2006 Jeep. The rear driver’s side vent window had been smashed. The men walked from the car and then sat on the porch of 2234 S. Scoville. After sitting for awhile, the witness saw the men return to the car, open the door and grab some items. They fled north toward the house where they had previously been sitting. The car’s owner reported that his dashboard was damaged; a car stereo was missing along with a $100 iPod and $40.

The owner of a 1977 red American Motors station wagon told police that someone stole the insurance and vehicle registration cards from the car parked in the 3000 block of Clarence. The thief left the passenger side door open, the victim said.

Unlocked Ford Focus burgled

Thieves hit the jackpot when they found an unlocked car on the 2400 block of Kenilworth and removed a CD/Stereo unit, iPod, radar detector and the owner’s wallet containing his ID and insurance card.  A neighbor told police she heard yelling in the street around 3:00 AM, but did not look out the window.

A gray 1996 Dodge Caravan was damaged on the rear driver’s side panel after being parked in the MacNeal hospital lot near some construction equipment.

Boyfriend moves out with her money

A woman told police she suspected her former boyfriend in the ransacking of her bedroom and theft of $300 and a camera. She said that while she was at work, her boyfriend’s belongings had been removed from the apartment they shared in the 1800 block of Wesley. Her money and camera disappeared as well.

A tile cutter and a box of hand tools worth $500 were stolen from a garage in the 6400 block of 27th St. Police believe the thief entered through a side door.

Man finds hand grenade in cousin’s junk

A man cleaning the garage for a cousin (who is in a nursing home with dementia) discovered several shotgun shells and what appeared to be a live hand grenade. Cook County bomb squad officers arrived at 3500 block of Wisconsin and determined the grenade to be a fake.

A Chrysler Concorde, traveling in the 2300 block of Oak Park Avenue and audible more than 250 feet away, was pulled over and impounded by police for violating Berwyn’s noise ordinance.  The $500 ticket went to driver Shalonda Y. Young, 20, of Chicago.

Too loud, speeding with open beer

An excessively loud 1989 white Caprice was stopped at 26th and Gunderson and impounded. The $500 ticket went to driver Roberto Pantoja, 26, of 2730 Clarence.
3:37 AM
An officer clocked a GMC Envoy doing 42 MPH in a 30 MPH construction zone on Ogden.  He attempted to curb the eastbound SUV at Cuyler but the vehicle kept going.  Multiple subjects within the Envoy could be seen passing items back and forth inside. 

When the SUV finally pulled over at Lombard, the officer saw several open cans of Modelo beer.  Samuel A. Guerrero, 30, of Cicero, was cited for speeding and transportation of open alcohol.

A Monte Carlo, audible 200 feet away while operating in the 6600 block of Cermak, was stopped and impounded for violating Berwyn’s noise ordinance.  Driver Erik Alfaro, 19, of Cicero, received the $500 ticket.

Same area, same deal, heard 225 feet away:  police impounded an Acura and gave a $500 noise ticket to driver Porfiro Cabrera, 29, of Cicero.

A man told police he had seen his lost dog being held by another man in the 1900 block of Kenilworth. He told police he had not reported the dog missing for two weeks and the dog did not have an ID chip. He did have a photo on his cell phone of the dog, an 18-month-old blue and grey pitbull he had named “Beast.” Police contacted the dog’s new owner, who said he had bought the animal at 25th and Hamlin for $400.

A grey female cat weighing 10 pounds, was found in the 2400 block of Gunderson. The animal had no collar or tags.

Nothing was taken from a 2005 green Lexus ES330 sedan after offenders used a blunt instrument to smash the passenger side window in the 3600 block of Harlem.

A juvenile male and two women got into an argument with a 57-year-old man in the 6400 block of 35th St. after asking to use the man’s telephone. The man told police the young man took a “walking stick” and broke the window of (the victim’s) mother-in-law’s 2002 Chevy Impala. Police picked up a trio walking nearby who matched the victim’s description. After letting the women go, police arrested the juvenile, who was released to the custody of his mother. Cops found a 3-foot piece of black pipe, with a knob on the end, in the alley in the 6400 block of 33rd.

A woman in the 3600 block of Ridgeland told police that an acquaintance of her 17-year-old son threw a metal wrench through the bay window of her home around 7 PM. She told police the boy’s name was “Reuben.”

Police stopped driver Fernando Castillo-Ortega, 20, of Chicago in the 6700 block of Riverside after hearing a loud stereo system blaring from his car. He was charged with driving without a valid driver’s license, having an uninsured vehicle, and excessive car stereo volume. The black Volkswagen Golf was impounded.

Police impounded a 1993 white Pontiac Bonneville after stopping the driver for excessive car stereo noise. Felipe Rosado, 26 of Chicago was charged with no valid drivers license, driving with a suspended license and prohibited car volume.

Car burglary

A woman told police that her 1998 white Ford Expedition had been broken into by unknown means while parked in the 6800 block of Vacin. Thieves caused extensive damage to her dashboard in the process of removing the Alpine AM/FM Cd pull-out radio.
