“I don’t have nothing on me, smurf”
June 22, 2008, 1:27 AM
An officer saw a man yelling and screaming while standing in the middle of the street in front of Selena’s bar on 26th at Cuyler. The man appeared to be yelling at the bar’s bouncers; he reportedly shouted, “I will f@#& your fat a$$ up!” Police stopped the man, who was shirtless, as he was walking to his white Chevy Suburban. The man appeared intoxicated and aggressive. The bouncers told police the man tried to pick a fight in the bar, but was escorted outside.
The officer could see a white plastic baggie hanging from the man’s beltline on his right. The officer asked the man to place his hands on the squad car, but during the subsequent patdown, the man kept removing his hands from the car. When asked whether he had any weapons, police said, the man stuttered and hesitated before saying “No, I don’t have nothing on me, smurf.” The officer recovered the baggie, upon which the man said “yeah, you found some s&!t on me, but that ain’t mine.” He then lunged and attempted to run off. In the subsequent struggle, the man was taken to the ground and secured by police. He sustained a cut near one eye during the process, and tried to run off once more while police awaited the ambulance; he was again subdued.
As police spoke to the offender, 32-year-old Silvestre Alvarez of the 2600 block of Kenilworth, the car alarm on Alvarez’s Suburban—parked in a handicap spot in the 2500 block of Cuyler— began to go off. It was towed; Alvarez received tickets for parking in the handicap spot and a noise ticket for the alarm.
The substance in the baggie tested positive for 2 grams of cocaine. The assistant state’s attorney approved a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance; Alvarez was also charged with resisting an officer.

Drunken pair fight each other, refocus their displeasure on police
June 13, 2008, 12:48 AM
An officer patrolling the Roosevelt Rd alley near Clarence was tipped off by a witness to a disturbance in the back yard of a house on the east side of the 1200 block of Clarence. There, the officer encountered a drunken 19-year-old man who had scratches on his torso and an uncooperative attitude. Also in the yard was the man’s girlfriend—an 18-year-old female, also uncooperative—who approached the officer in an aggressive manner. The woman told the officer that the disturbance was “none of his f@*#ing business!”
Backup units arrived and other people emerged from the house. The woman told police she and the man argued and she scratched him up because she was upset. The man agreed and said they fight “all the time,” then squared off against police in a threatening manner as the woman yelled profanities. She was arrested for domestic battery; the man was charged with obstruction and underage drinking.

Screaming people, bloody floor, cops obliged to break down door
June 8, 2008, 3:04 AM
By 3 AM, a neighbor had had enough of a loud party going on in the 6700 block of 26th, and asked the hosts to turn down the music. Not off, just down. Instead, one female partygoer allegedly punched the complainant in the face, and kicked a police officer. Elizabeth Cortez, 19, of Cicero, was charged with two counts of battery.
When police first arrived, they saw blood in the hallway. People inside the apartment refused to let officers inside. When police looked in the window, they heard yelling and screaming, and observed a man with his hand inside his shirt. Officers advised the tenant to open up, or have the door broken down. The male tenant said, “Go ahead, you need the practice.” Police forced open the door and handcuffed the tenant, though not without a fight. Later, at the police station, the combative tenant said he didn’t remember anything because he “partied too much.”
The blood in the hallway turned out to be that of a Cicero man, who told police someone hit him.
