Loud car impounded on north side

Members of the WEDGE gang task force stopped a white sedan at 15th and Gunderson for violating Berwyn’s noise ordinance. The vehicle—registered to a 20-year-old woman from the 1400 block of Home—was impounded. Driver Stephen Giet, 18, of Cicero, received the $500 noise-violation ticket.

Both had to be towed

An accident involving a green Jeep and a Pontiac Grand Am occurred in Cermak Plaza. A Berwyn woman was injured. One driver carried no ID and said it was her father’s car. 19-year-old Samantha DelToro, of the 1900 block of west 21st Place, Chicago, was cited for driving on a suspended license, no insurance, and failure to yield when turning left.

Hit & run

A Honda Accord and a blue Ford Club Wagon were involved in an accident at 26th and Home. Tickets were issued to driver Francisco Salgado, 20, of the 2600 block of East, for making an improper left turn, failure to report an accident, failure to give information following an accident, and leaving the scene of an accident.

Lack of street parking forced alley appearance

Callers alerted police to a suspicious vehicle in the 1800 block of Wesley/Euclid alley; the vehicle was running and occupied but blocking alley access. Responding officers found a silver Dodge van whose driver appeared to be sleeping. The van was running, with its lights, radio and windshield wipers on. A half-full open bottle of Miller Light beer was in the driver’s side cupholder, and several empty bottles were visible by the driver’s seat. Officers woke driver Roberto Rodriguez, 34, of the 1800 block of Wesley. Rodriguez told them he was in the alley because he was unable to find an open parking spot on the street.
He was charged with driving on a suspended license, no insurance and having open alcohol in his vehicle.

Warrant knowledge used against boyfriend

A woman in the 6800 block of 21st told police her 27-year-old boyfriend had argued with her over the phone, inspiring her to divulge his whereabouts to police. The woman said Riverside police had a warrant for his arrest. A check of the man’s name revealed she was right: Riverside wanted him in relation to a revoked license offense. The man was arrested and turned over to Riverside.

Unlicensed speeder’s car impounded

A red Mitsubishi Eclipse at 19th and Gunderson was stopped by police after doing 38 MPH in a 25 MPH zone, then turning abruptly without slowing down, causing the tires to squeal. Driver Nestor Perez, 18, was cited for speeding, tire-squealing, driving without insurance and driving with no license. The car was confiscated.

Brookfield, Chicago residents in accidents

Two drivers got tickets after an accident in the 6400 block of 26th. Marie R. Wagner, 21, of Chicago, was cited for disobeying a traffic control device. Brookfield resident Reyna Navarez, 47, received tickets for the same violation, and also for driving uninsured.

A Chicago woman’s car was impounded after an accident at Harlem and Stanley. Debra Maxwell, 39, of the 1400 block of north Central, Chicago, had her vehicle confiscated because she was driving on a suspended license.

Loud SUV impounded

A tan Chevy Trailblazer violated Berwyn’s noise ordinance at 35th and Ridgeland and was impounded. The $500 ticket went to driver Eric Vicera, 19, of Cicero.

Accident afflicts al fresco area

An accident at 16th and Scoville involved a green Chevy Malibu and a black Audi. After the initial impact, one car continued in a southwest direction, striking the outdoor fence and furniture at Parad Ice ice cream shop. Both vehicles were towed. Sabino Amaya, 25, of the 1300 block of Scoville, received a ticket for failure to yield at an intersection.

A silver Toyota was stopped on 35th at Kenilworth for violating Berwyn’s noise ordinance. The car was impounded; the $500 ticket went to driver Borislav Josipovic, 26, of Lyons.

Loud cars plus some marijuana

A white Mitsubishi Lancer was stopped for excessive noise at 16th and Highland. The driver, a 25-year-old man from the 6200 block of west Berenice, Chicago, was cited for noise and driving on a suspended license; the Lancer was impounded. The passenger, Luis A Vargas, 25, of the 3900 block of west Diversey, Chicago, was found in possession of a cigar holder containing two grams of marijuana. He received a $100 marijuana possession ticket.

A silver Toyota, eastbound on 35th at Kenilworth, was stopped and impounded for noise. Driver Borislav Jospovic, 26, of Lyons, received the $500 noise ticket.

Buick sedan vs SUV

A two-vehicle accident in the 7000 block of 14th involved a 4-door Buick and an SUV. One driver smelled of alcohol, and had an open can of Modelo beer near the driver’s seat. A 24-year-old man from the 1400 block of Wenonah was cited for illegal transportation of alcohol, improper lane use, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and no license ever obtained.

Hit and run, hit and walk, tinted windows and miscellaneous accidents

A woman bringing in her groceries in the 2900 block of Maple heard a loud smash. She saw a dark-colored older car drive away northbound on Maple. The driver’s side mirror of her parked car was broken, and two other vehicles parked on the block were damaged in the incident.

A witness in the 2600 block of Oak Park told police after a Saturn hit some parked cars, the woman driving got out and walked away in the alley wearing a pink shirt, black pants and pink high heels. The Saturn’s plates registered to a 31-year-old woman from the 1600 block of Oak Park. She admitted involvement when police found her, and was cited for improper lane use, no insurance and failure to report an accident.

A minivan and a Camaro were in an accident in the 2100 block of Harlem. One driver, 41-year-old Bonifacio N. Vazquez of Summit, received tickets for driving without license or insurance and with suspended registration.

A red Dodge Stratus was stopped at Ogden and Cuyler because of its illegal tinted front windows. Driver Juan L. Rivera, 21, of Cicero, was cited for the obstructed windows as well as for driving with no license.

An Elantra and a van had an accident in the 3000 block of Harlem. When asked to show license and insurance, the driver of one vehicle showed a Mexican ID card and an expired insurance card. Jorge Llanos, 30, of Westmont, was cited for driving uninsured and driving despite never obtaining a license to do so.

Failure to yield, speeding

Following an accident in the 7200 block of 26th involving a Honda Civic and a Dodge Neon, an 18-year-old woman from the 1300 block of Wenonah got tickets for failure to yield turning left and for driving uninsured.

A blue Pontiac was stopped at Elmwood and Cermak after police clocked it doing 42 MPH in a 25 MPH zone. Driver Andres Bautista, 24, of Cicero was cited for speeding and unlicensed driving.

No U-Turn sign flouted

A white BMW made a U-Turn at Cermak and Gunderson, despite the “No U-Turn” sign. The driver, a 33-year-old man from the 2300 block of Elmwood, was cited for disobeying a traffic control device, loud muffler, no city sticker, no insurance and no license.
