Drug-resistant staph infection now another county’s problem
June 12, 2010, 8:17 PM
During a traffic stop at Clarence and Ogden, police learned the driver had no license or insurance. A check of his name in the LEADS system revealed he had an active arrest warrant out of Kendall County, so the officer asked the driver to step out of the vehicle. The driver reportedly told the officer he had MRSA*—a highly contagious antibiotic-resistant staph infection—and showed numerous open wounds on his chest and arms. Booking officers were warned to wear gloves in dealing with him. At 10 PM, the infected prisoner was taken to MacNeal to care for the open lesions; he was later delivered to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Department.
